Our Story
Danish design heritage since 1963.
It began in Odense in 1963. What started with a simple challenge to create a few Christmas nisser became a Danish family of characters that has continued to grow for more than six decades.
1963
It began with a little shop in Odense.
Anne Beate's mother ran the little shop Klods Hans, just across from H.C. Andersen's House. One November day in 1963, she came home and found Anne Beate on the sofa with a pile of magazines.
“You look bored, my girl. You should start making some nisser.”
Anne Beate had never made nisser before. The first attempts were not quite as she had hoped — but a tradition had begun.
Men and women join the early girls, establishing the recognizable Anne-Beate universe.
Music, Christmas traditions, Danish characters and everyday stories become part of the collection.
Annual figures and special characters continue the tradition for new generations of collectors.
The nisser move to Den Gamle Jul in Borup, where the family continues the Anne-Beate Design story.
New figures join a collection built across generations — created to be collected and remembered.
